Joining the Spatial Sciences

Note: This is not an official web page, but rather something I have put together for those who may be interested in the Spatial Sciences.

What are the Spatial Sciences?
Spatial Science includes such fields as mapping/cartography, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), surveying, GPS, aerial/satellite imagery, and photogrammetry.
It is a growth area, given the potential use for such things as GIS.

For the layman, GIS software is a combination of mapping and database software. If you have information in a database that has some geographic aspect to it, then you may be able to use it in a GIS. As such, there is enormous potential for its use.

    • Instructions:
      Click on the 'Turn off Landsat' button and then the 'Turn on Full 250K schema' button'.
      To find your area of interest, zoom in/out/pan around (if you have good geographic knowledge) or click on the 'Find' tab / Place name search.
      Once you have found your location, click on the 'Order Mapsheet' tab, and then the “Activate Mapsheet tool' button.
      Select the map format you want to download (they can be downloaded in MapInfo or ESRI formats when it comes to GIS; as well as other formats), and then select the map/s you want to download. Click on the 'Add to order' button after selecting each map.
      Then, click on the 'Show Order' button or 'My order' tab. You can only download 5 maps at one time.
      Click on the 'Ready' link to download each map (which will be a Zip file).
      If you want to download more maps, then click on the 'Clear Order' and then 'Confirm Clear' buttons. Then, go back to the 'Order Mapsheet' tab.
      
  • Vicmap - Sample Vicmap data can be downloaded in GIS and other formats.
